Loteria Maker

December · your people, your way to gather

A work party that feels less like another meeting.

Someone has been volunteered to organize the party. Maybe it is you. The calendar is full, the budget is real and “mandatory fun” is not the feeling you want. Start smaller: one shared table, clear rules and a game people can join without being put on the spot.

For a work party, choose a short, optional Lotería round with a visible winning pattern. Use approved workplace pictures or preview a ready-made Christmas deck for suitability.

This guide is for planning, not a free game download. A custom digital project and a custom printed order are different options.

Make the welcome clear before the game starts

Say that playing, posing for photos and joining a gift exchange are optional. Offer a place to chat or watch. People may have different beliefs, schedules, access needs or reasons not to celebrate Christmas; nobody needs to explain them.

Ask about practical access needs privately rather than announcing them to the room. Show pictures as well as reading labels, lower the background music and leave clear space around tables. A seated game can still be hard to follow if the caller is far away or speaks too quickly.

Choose the content before choosing the prizes

A custom workplace deck can use a coffee mug, delivery box, plant, break-room snack or a meeting-room door. Get permission before using colleagues’ faces or names. Leave out salaries, performance, health details, immigration status and jokes about a specific person’s mistakes.

Navidad Latina is our separate original bilingual Christmas edition. Read its complete card guide before bringing it to work. A seasonal label does not mean every card suits your team. If the humor or religious references do not fit, make a neutral custom deck instead.

A realistic half-hour, not a second team-building workshop

Use this as a flexible agenda. Round lengths depend on the pattern and group, so play fewer rounds if people need to get back to work. Choose a caller who wants the role, not the newest person by default.

  • Beforehand: count players or pairs, check the deck against the boards and set aside markers.
  • First five minutes: welcome people, show the pattern and demonstrate one call.
  • Next 15–20 minutes: play one or two rounds; pause after showing each picture.
  • Last five minutes: check winners, thank the helpers and invite people to stay or leave.

Explain it once, in the languages your team uses

“We’ll say both names and show the card. Mark that picture if it’s on your board. Today we’re playing for one horizontal row.” Demonstrate before beginning. Nobody needs to translate publicly or already know Lotería. Let colleagues share a board if that feels easier.

Use one matching deck for the whole group and keep drawn cards visible for checking. Agree on a tie rule in advance. A small prize can be pleasant, but keep participation free and avoid cash pools or betting. A holiday gathering should not ask employees to spend money to belong.

Build around the place you share, not personal information

Sixteen clear images are enough to begin a 4 × 4 custom board. A 5 × 5 board needs at least 25 distinct cards. Start with objects: The Mug / La Taza, The Plant / La Planta, The Notebook / El Cuaderno and The Lunch / El Almuerzo. Add your team’s own names for ordinary shared things, with permission.

Choose one readable label per card and check the design on a small screen. Avoid company logos or internal documents unless you have permission to use them. Use your own or licensed pictures. Do not upload confidential files, badges, schedules or customer details to make a funny card.

Match access and printing to the actual group

You can design and preview a Maker draft free. A new project pass includes one project, up to 50 boards with the Maker logo, 30 days from purchase to edit and three final saves. An active paid membership includes unlimited projects, up to 100 boards per project and unlimited edits and final saves with logo-free exports while active. Older passes keep their benefits.

If you only want a shipped game, order 50 or 100 custom boards plus their matching calling deck from a saved free draft without first buying a pass or membership. Physical purchases do not unlock paid digital files. Printing, shipping, AI credits and ready-made shop downloads are separate.

For a larger group, consider pairs and check the selected product’s board count. Do not mix boards from different decks. Confirm delivery estimates for your actual order, or allow time to test-print and prepare your digital set. No general guide can guarantee holiday arrival.

End while it still feels easy

Let people leave after a round without a speech. Keep any photos optional, thank whoever prepared the materials and keep private workplace stories out of captions. A good party does not need to produce content for the company feed.

If your team wants a gift exchange, organize it separately with an optional budget agreed in advance. Lotería can be the shared activity before the exchange, rather than a test people have to win to receive a gift.
